Board of Auditors

The Board of Auditors is comprised of three individuals who are elected by the residents of Solebury Township for staggered six-year terms. The duties of the elected auditors are detailed in Section 900 of the Pennsylvania Second Class Township Code.

The Township contracts with an independent certified public accounting firm to provide an annual audit of the Township’s financial statements in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards. Therefore, the current duty of the elected auditors is limited to determining the compensation and mileage reimbursement for supervisors employed by the Township in accordance with Section 606.

In Solebury Township, a professional independent Certified Public Accountant (CPA)firm is appointed by the Board of Supervisors to perform the annual audit of the township's financial records. This ensures expert, third-party verification of our financial health. 

While the CPA firm handles the auditing duties, our elected Board of Auditors retains crucial independent responsibilities:

Setting Supervisor Compensation
The primary remaining duty of the Board of Auditors is to independentlydetermine and set the fair compensation for any supervisors who are employed by the township in a staff capacity (for example, as a roadmaster or an equipment operator).

Inspecting Records
The board may still inspect the dockets and records of local district justices to verify that all fines and costs due to the township have been remitted correctly.

Oversight
The three elected residents on the Board of Auditors serve staggered six-year terms, providing an independent layer of checks and balances within the township government structure.

The Board of Auditors meet annually on the day following the organization of the Board of Supervisors.  This is the only meeting required by the Second Class Township Code.
